How to properly handle the power plant ash and flue gas generated by biomass power generation to avoid damage to the ecological environment is a current technical problem. Scientists in China have found that Chlorella can use nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide in power plant ash and flue gas as a “foodâ€, and proposes a recycling economy and technology strategy for comprehensive treatment of biomass power plant waste.
The reporter learned from the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, that Wang Qiang's subject group used Chlorella as a material to study the biological emission reduction, mechanism of action, and carbon/nitrogen (C/N) of microalgae for industrial flue gas nitrogen oxides. Balanced metabolism, and on the basis of these studies, further evaluation of the feasibility of using ash and flue gas produced by biomass power plants as a nutrient source to cultivate oil produced by chlorella.
They found that when the plant ash was incorporated into the medium as nutrient salts, the carbon dioxide in the flue gas was used to enhance the photosynthesis of the chlorella cells, and the final gain was 39% and 35% higher than that of the chlorella cultured in the conventional medium, respectively. % of oil and biomass productivity. The growth of Chlorella cells reduces the concentration of nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide in the flue gas, reaching a near 100% nitrogen oxide denitrification efficiency and a maximum CO2 removal rate of 0.46 g/dL. After the completion of the cultivation, the maximum treatment efficiency of the power plant ash was 13.33 g/dl, and almost no nutrient elements remained in the residual medium, and it could be safely discharged or recycled for continuous microalgae cultivation or farmland watering.
Based on these results, the Wang Qiang group proposed a comprehensive recycling economy technology strategy for biomass power plant waste, that is, through the use of industrial waste released during the power generation process of biomass power plants as a nutrient for microalgae cultivation, and at the same time producing bio-oil And other high value-added products, to achieve negative carbon bio-energy production, and bring economic, social and environmental benefits.
