With the improvement of people's living standards, people's awareness of environmental protection and safety and health have gradually increased. They are also increasingly concerned about the safety of interior and exterior wall paints. As the most widely used latex paint for interior decoration, there is no poison. If it is toxic, Which ingredients are toxic and toxic?
The so-called chemical toxicity refers to the ability of a certain amount of chemical substances to cause damage to the human body. It can be considered that all chemical substances will damage the human body as long as they reach a certain dose; on the contrary, if there is no certain amount, that is, the dose that is less harmful to the human body, it will not cause damage to the human body. Therefore, when considering the toxic effects of chemical substances on the human body, in addition to considering the chemical toxicity of the chemical substances themselves, it is necessary to clarify the doses of their contact with the human body and to consider the route and time distribution of contact with the body.
Composition Analysis We know that latex knees are composed of base materials (also known as film-forming materials, adhesives, etc.), pigments (filling materials), various additives and water. Below we will discuss these components one by one.
1, base material
The base materials commonly used in latex paints are pure acrylate emulsion, benzene-acrylic emulsion, vinegar-acryl emulsion, polyvinyl acetate emulsion and the like. Acrylate polymers are inherently non-toxic and are permitted in several countries, such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to allow them to be used in food packaging. Although the monomers and emulsifiers in the emulsion polymerization have certain toxicity, the emulsion polymer will contain a small amount of free monomers. The production and secondary processing of the emulsion polymer may involve some safety and environmental problems, but the emulsion forms a paint. After the membrane, these free monomers and emulsifiers will volatilize, and the final paint film will not harm the human body. Polyvinyl acetate polymer is odorless, odorless, non-toxic, and polyvinyl acetate resin produced by solution polymerization or suspension polymerization can replace natural resin as a base material for chewing gum. The US Food and Drug Administration regulations state that polyvinyl acetate copolymers can also be used in food packaging. Several other commonly used emulsions are also non-toxic. However, it should be noted that in low-grade interior wall coatings, some manufacturers use polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl acetal (formaldehyde or butyraldehyde) as a base material, and synthetic polyvinyl formals utilize alcohol in organic chemistry. Aldehyde condensation reaction, this reaction is neither quantitative nor instantaneous development. Moreover, polyvinyl alcohol is a macromolecular alcohol, and the reaction conversion rate cannot be high. Therefore, the polyvinyl formal has a certain amount of formaldehyde. The toxic carcinogen of formaldehyde has a strong stimulating effect on the skin and mucous membranes. When the concentration is 5ppm, it will cause cough and feel chest tightness. Long-term exposure may have mild eye, nose and throat irritation, dry skin, softening, etc., so use it. Coatings produced from base materials are harmful to humans. Of course, coatings made from these base materials are not in the category of latex paints.
2, color (fill) materials
Pigments commonly used in latex paints include coloring pigments and body pigments. Commonly used coloring pigments are titanium white powder, lithopone, iron oxide red, light fast yellow G, phthalocyanine blue B, pigment carbon black and the like. Titanium dioxide is the most important white pigment. In addition to coatings, it is widely used in many industries such as cosmetics, papermaking and ceramics. Latex paints are generally colored with color paste. Responsible latex paint manufacturers generally use environmentally friendly color pastes. They do not contain heavy metals. They are generally non-toxic and harmless to the human body. Commonly used body pigments are light calcium carbonate, which is relatively high in purity and can be used in edible products such as toothpaste. Heavy carbonic acid, talc, mica powder, barite powder, kaolin, wollastonite powder are all pulverized from the corresponding natural ore; these inorganic minerals are non-toxic and generally do not contain harmful substances.
