Shake Shack, New York’s hottest burger shop, will open a new store in Manhattan’s Astor Place area later this month. The new branch still offers Shake Shack's signature food. The only difference is that the new store will completely replace manual ordering and checkout with machines. Hiring a cashier has always been an important part of restaurant spending. This means that at Shake Shack's new store, machines will replace humans.
Randy Garutti, the company's CEO, said that customers can order foods from the restaurant's on-demand machines, smartphones, and tablet PCs. They can receive food directly from the store after receiving a confirmation message. The cashier is not required to pay for the entire process.
Garutti said that the new store as a test point for automated automated ordering systems is more like a playground to test and understand the changing needs of its guests. Shake Shack is committed to innovation and hopes to provide the best service to its guests while supporting technological innovation.
But Shake Shack was not the first restaurant to use machines instead of manpower. In June of this year, McDonald's announced that it would replace 2,500 cashiers with order machines.
In addition, CaliBurger announced earlier this year that it will use its robotic kitchen assistant "Flippy" in restaurants in 50 locations around the world by the end of 2019.
Caliburger said that the artificial intelligence robot system makes the operation of Caliburger restaurant more efficient and food production faster and safer. Investing in the Miso robot is to establish a more unified operating system in the future, which can effectively control all aspects of the operation of the restaurant - interactive entertainment games in restaurants, automatic ordering and cooking, smart food delivery, and real-time detection of food safety.
However, Caliburger did not disclose the cost of Flippy.
