Research progress on all-solid planar lithium-ion microcapacitors

Recently, Wu Zhongshuai, a researcher of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the team of 2D materials and energy devices, teamed with Bao Xinhe, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and He Yanbing, an associate professor at the Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University, developed a high energy density, good flexibility, and excellent High-temperature stability and highly integrated all-solid-state planar lithium-ion microcapacitor. Related research results were published in "Energy Environ. Sci."

In recent years, wearable, portable electronic devices and micro-electromechanical systems (such as micro-robots, micro-sensors) are rapidly developing in the direction of light, thin, short, multi-functional integration, which greatly promotes the modern society ’s high power density, high energy density, The demand for micro energy storage devices with features such as flexibility and modular integration. Traditional lithium-ion capacitors have attracted much attention due to their high energy density of lithium-ion batteries and high power density of supercapacitors. However, the device configuration of its sandwich stack structure greatly limits its mechanical flexibility, high temperature performance, and modular integration capabilities.

Recently, the research team was the first in the world to develop a new concept of all-solid flexible planar lithium-ion microcapacitors. The micro-capacitor uses high-conductivity graphene as the current collector, high-voltage ion gel as the electrolyte, nano-lithium titanate as the negative electrode and activated graphene as the positive electrode to construct a high-ion electronic conduction plane interdigitated microelectrode An all-solid lithium-ion microcapacitor is assembled on a substrate. The lithium-ion microcapacitor has a high energy density of 53.5mWh / cm3, which is higher than that of the currently reported lithium thin-film batteries and microsupercapacitors. At the same time, the lithium-ion microcapacitor has excellent cycle stability, and the capacitance retention rate after 6000 cycles is 98.9%; it has high-temperature electrochemical stability and can work stably at 80 ° C; and has excellent mechanical flexibility. There is basically no attenuation of performance under various bending and twisting conditions. In addition, the lithium-ion micro-capacitor exhibits good modular integration capabilities, without the need for metal connectors, and can effectively regulate the output operating voltage and capacity. Therefore, this work provides a new strategy for the development of flexible, miniaturized, and intelligent energy storage devices.
