The expansion valve plays a role in throttling and regulating the flow in the chiller refrigeration system. However, if the chiller is used for too long, or if it is not properly operated, it will cause a malfunction. The main problems that are analyzed today are the common failures of expansion valves:
1. The thermal expansion valve is not small: this is mainly because the transmission rod is extended too long during maintenance, so that the valve needle is not small. Or the pre-tightening force of the mediation spring is insufficient, and the valve pin hole is not small. It is also possible that the temperature sensing package is too far from the evaporator outlet or is not insulated from the suction pipe and is affected by external high temperature interference.
2. The phenomenon of oil plugging occurs: when the heart-compressor of the chiller is running, if the type and quantity of the selected compressor oil do not match the requirements, or the oil quality is poor, when the evaporation temperature is lower than a certain temperature The wax in the oil will separate and block the filter or valve pinhole of the thermal expansion valve.
3. The thermal expansion valve transmission rod is too short or curved: when the transmission rod is bent or too short, the force on the diaphragm cannot be transmitted to the valve needle seat, the valve needle is always in an upward trend, and the expansion valve is not open enough or cannot be opened.
4. The temperature-sensitive liquid filled in the temperature expansion system of the thermal expansion valve leaks. When the working fluid in the thermal expansion valve temperature sensing system leaks, the force acting on the diaphragm will be reduced, so that the thermal expansion valve cannot be opened.
5. In the refrigeration system with Freon as the refrigerant, when it contains moisture, it is easy to cause ice blockage at the thermal expansion valve.
6. The small filter at the inlet end of the thermal expansion valve is blocked, which means “dirty blockage”. It is recommended to replace the filter. If it is dirty at the expansion valve orifice, replace the entire expansion valve.

The thermal expansion valve is the pressure drop from the condensing pressure to the evaporating pressure, which directly determines the operating performance of the entire system. However, in actual work, the operation of the thermal expansion valve is often neglected, making the thermal expansion valve a dead angle in equipment maintenance. Regular inspection and adjustment of the thermal expansion valve is of great significance to the operating life of the refrigeration equipment, saving energy and reducing operating costs.
