Mr. Sujit Gulati, Joint Secretary-General of Textiles Department of the Indian Government, said at the opening ceremony of the Coimbatore Technical Textiles Hygiene and Infrastructure Industry Conference organized by CII that the Ministry of Textiles of India is working closely with stakeholders and plans to establish Four centres of excellence, one is a nonwoven centre, one sports technical textile centre, one industrial technical textile centre and one composite centre.
Sujit Gulati said that four of the four centers of excellence have already been identified. The industrial technology center was built at the PSG Academy in Coimbatore, the non-woven fabrics center was built at the DKTE College in Ichalkaranji, and the composite center was built in Ahmedabad. ATIRA, these centers will provide support for the development of technical textiles at home and abroad, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises to provide entrepreneurial support.
According to estimates by the David Rigby Consortium, the global technical textiles market in 2010 is 127 billion U.S. dollars, and is expected to reach 127 billion U.S. dollars by 2012-13, with an annual growth rate of 3.5%. He also quoted the baseline survey that India’s technical textiles market was approximately Rs. 63,204 crore in 2010-11. Based on past trends, the market size of technical textiles is expected to be in the period of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan. In 2016-17, it will reach Rs 1,60,000 crore, with an annual growth rate of 20%. He said that by 2016-17, the medical textiles market is expected to reach 6,000 crores, with an annual growth rate of 20%.
