Russia turns on green light for genetically modified foods and most people are reluctant to eat

China Network January 15th According to the report of the Russian Communist Youth League Pravda website on January 3rd, in Russia, it is allowed to produce GM crops and food. However, public opinion surveys show that 80% of Russians do not want to eat genetically modified "delicious food."

Now Russia has allowed its own production of GM foods. Prior to this, domestic GM foods were imported. However, public opinion surveys show that 80% of Russians do not want such "special treatment" for the consumption of genetically modified foods. Although they actually eat genetically modified organisms, they just do not realize it.

Where did the attack on genetically modified food come from? There is such an institution - the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The task is to feed all the poor in Sudan. 20 years ago the organization thought about why the development of GM engineering services was not good. Asked a lot of scientists. They promised to say: We can, for example, add a part of the plant genome to the genes of another plant, so that we can increase the crop's ability to prevent damage by three times, and it will not affect its growth in any climate. The crop can still be mature. When it comes to doing this, from the early 1990s, the organization’s humanitarian assistance to Africa increased dramatically.

Genetic engineering is a scientific discipline. The leader in this field is, as always, an American scientist. Many people in the United States are now considering what kind of assistance we should provide to Africa. Or are we hungry? No one knows that even the most affluent countries in the world have malnutrition of 40 million people each year. Therefore, genetically modified foods have already appeared in the United States. A few years ago in the United States, a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture said: “All foods that people buy in cheap stores are GM foods. Of course, wealthy Americans will never eat these things. Although genetically modified foods are now The pros and cons have not been conclusive yet. For the middle class and above, they have special 'expensive' stores."

“I only buy expensive food,” said a New York resident who is not particularly wealthy. “I save money on transportation, heating, etc. My neighbors think that I am crazy. They never consider whether food is genetically modified. I think it is impossible. 'Poisoning'."

Why is there such a formulation that "Hazard has not been confirmed" is a relatively easy statement.

There are many claims about genetically modified foods in Russia. A pedestrian said: "We don't have GM foods! There are only U.S. and U.S. GM foods."

First of all, no one has shown that obesity is related to certain genetically modified foods. On the contrary, Americans even eat burgers in restaurants. Second, we don't doubt the need for genetically modified foods.

Let us start from a fact that in Russia until 2004, even scientific laboratories could not identify GMOs. High-magnification microscopes and other scientific equipment have just appeared. The inter-departmental committee of genetic engineering has banned the production of genetically modified organisms. It only allows the import of 17 genetically modified organisms, including potatoes, corn, soybeans, sugar beet and rice.

In addition, the organization also allows the addition of genetically modified foods in Russian imports (such as adding imported corn to Russian imports). Given that 30% to 50% of food in Russia is imported, experts estimate that the market share of GM foods also accounts for roughly the same proportion. Not all import commodity regulations need to be revised. Not all domestic products are "clean," but the proportions are roughly the same.

Russian farmers do not like GM foods and consider them terrible. The reason is that the former Minister of Agriculture, Alexei Goldyev, has often urged the peasants to gather together and urged them to push them forward in the backyard.

Therefore, Russia believes that there are chemical genetic projects all over the world. Russia has no money in that area, but the land is clean and Russia can be positioned as a producer of clean food.

Now it has begun to publicize opposition to GMOs. If at the beginning of the 21st century it was opposed to genetically modified organisms, at that time the Russians, who were polled by 30% of the polls, opposed it. Now, the ratio is as high as 80%, and even 90% in modern Moscow. The government has to react. Fourteen regions have now declared themselves "GMO free zones." Unfortunately, this is often misunderstood.

Now, the Belgorod region has actually banned the purchase of GM foods. In Moscow, for example, food processed from genetically modified organisms cannot be purchased on a budget, and producers, even without genetically modified products, can be labelled “transgenic”, and information in violation of regulations will be posted on a dedicated website. In other regions, the prohibition of the addition of genetically modified products is prohibited in infants and young children, and only in infants and young children.

But now, the genetically modified ingredients in baby food have been solved. According to the law, if the genetically modified ingredient in food is greater than 0.9%, the product must be labeled "containing genetically modified organisms." If the content is less than 0.9%, no labeling is required. There are no special regulations for baby food.

A few years ago in inspections of meat processing plants, sausages contained genetically modified organisms that contained one-third of their content. In the Moscow city inspection, it was found that 16 of the 20 commodities samples were genetically modified or genetically modified. This was a breakthrough, but it was not labeled.

From July 1st next year, not only can we buy genetically modified foods in Russia, but we can also independently produce genetically modified organisms. The government made this decision in September and was simply ignored.

Is it OK to have a new variety with or without a transgene? According to Andre Dongnov, vice chairman of the State Duma, scientists have exhausted all methods to breed new varieties that do not contain genetically modified genes, but they will not work. Therefore, this decision is correct.

Some people are afraid of genetic modification, but the consequences of adding chemicals, toxins, and antibiotics to food are even more terrible. Some scientists have also seen the dangers of genetic modification.
